I haven't written a blog in ages but it's the new year and my main new years resolution is to be more productive. As I was finishing wiping my kitchen counters down after cleaning it, I started thinking about my 40 before 40 list. I've had to revise a few and I've completed a few more. It's all very exciting, well to me at least.
Let's start with the revisions.
Number 4. One month vow of silence. When I initially wrote the 40 before 40 list, Jack Jack wasn't in the picture. I can honestly say that it'll be impossible for my to have a two through six (depending on when I'm able to do it) year old boy running around with a silent mom for 30 days. This 40 before 40 item is really important to me so I don't want to scrap the whole thing. I'm going to do a one week vow of silence instead. I believe that's more realistic.
Number 7. Great White Shark tank dive. I'm adding this one to the list very begrudgingly. I was looking so forward to doing this but alas, not going to happen. A couple of months ago I was in the mall with a girl friend and they were doing virtual reality demos, YES PLEASE! We each tried it out. If you guessed that the demo was a shark tank dive then you get a shiny gold star. The demo started with me in a diving cage, super cool and my first thought was obviously "I hope I get to see a shark!" The beginning of the dive was great, I saw some sea turtles, lots of fish, then the cage goes deeper and it gets a little darker but still alright. I saw some jelly fish some more creatures and a sunken pirate ship and then the cage goes deeper and gets even darker. Have I mentioned that I'm scared of the dark in my past posts? Well I am, absolutely terrified, like a small child. Anyways, back to the virtual reality, my heart starts racing, I just know that something is going to pop out and I start looking for "it" for "it" spooks me. Terrible idea, out of the corner of my eye, in the shadows, a shark swims by. Now I don't know if you've tried a really good virtual reality set up before, let me tell you, it's incredible. You can look up, down, every direction, you're completely immersed and you're wearing huge headphones so all of the sounds just add to the experience. Now the girl helping me with all of this has a big flat screen tv that shows her what I'm looking at. Back to me, my heart is racing even faster because I'm so floored by how realistic everything I'm seeing and hearing is and BAM a shark comes up from underneath me and turns away at the last second, I was so scared that I had my feet up (I was in a chair thank goodness or I would have fallen over for sure). So at this point I'm trying extra hard not to see the shark coming and I have my head cocked to the left looking at the emptiness of the deep ocean and it dawns on me that she can see what I'm looking at and that I must look like an absolute fool, I almost start to laugh at myself when a fucking shark comes out of literally nowhere and hits the cage! I start screaming "GET THIS OFF OF ME, I'M DONE I'M DONE!" I hear this poor 19 year old girl telling me that it's going to be ok and to just close my eyes but she's so muffled because of the headphones and I can still hear everything and I can't close my eyes because then I might get eaten . ahhhh she gets it all off of me and I very quickly remember that I'm in the middle of South Centre mall. After that little episode I realized that there's no way in hell I could do in a shark cage, I was so scared I was almost crying, my girl friend was comforting but definitely had a few laughs. Side note, she watched the whole demo, she's so brave!
Number 11. Follow a random semi truck for 7 days. There's so many reasons why this one unfortunately has to be removed. I still think it would be a wild or boring or funny adventure but let's look at the facts. I'm a mom of 3 kids, if I get a chance to be away for 7 days that's probably not the most productive use of my free time. It's also not necessarily the safest idea that I've ever had. . . so, it's gone.
Number 25. Perform a set at Coasters. This is probably my favourite item on my 40 before 40 list. I have every intention of completing it, just needs a little fine tuning. I don't foresee getting a band together for reasons that are out of my control. I've come up with a couple of ideas that might work. Hubby and I do a set at an open mic night or maybe guest sing with my favourite local band. I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to do this one but I'm going to sing on a stage with a band and I'm going to have a blast and a half doing it!
Number 27. Watch an American Civil War reenactment. There's a place in Calgary that does war reenactments! Why on earth does the war reenactment that I watch have to be an American one?? Silly me.
That's it! Those are my revisions! As for the ones that I can add to the DONE list, I'm adding number 7 shark tank dive, it felt real to me and number 20 jump off a high dive. Holy moly! They are so much higher than I thought. I was swimming with my mom and girls and with a little (or maybe a lot) of encouragement from my Mommy I pushed myself and did it. It took me a while to get the nerve to do it once I was standing on the edge of giant concrete diving platform, so long that I started attracting a bit of an audience which just made it so much worse. I planned on just stepping off but I did a little run and jump then promptly closed my eyes and screamed. The adrenaline I felt after was great! So much that just thinking about it gives me a rush!
I have been working very slowly on my 40 before 40 list as the last couple of years have been pretty distracting, pregnancy, three kids instead of two, all that jazz. We've gotten into a nice routine now and life is feeling more organized than it has been in a very long time. I'm planning on adding my last five 40 before 40 items by the end of February and completing numbers 8, 14, 15 (possibly 16), 19, 32, 33 and 35 this year. Stay tuned!

Go away
I have blocked you in every way that I know possible on the internet and you are still popping up. Now with a fake account. I've now blocked that one as well. Go away. I wish that I never met you. I would give anything to be able to go back in time to Mr.Sitko's class and listen to my mom when she said that I should stay away from you. Being your friend was a mistake. I hate you.

40 before 40, what I've completed so far and the rest of the list, well almost.
The 40 before 40 continues!
I'm very happy to say that I can check two things off of my 40 before 40 list. The first thing that I completed was number 9, take a pole dancing class. Oh my goodness, so much fun! I ended up doing it as a very last minute birthday party for my 32nd birthday. I was joined by 9 amazing, adventurous and sexy ladies (who shall remain nameless as some prefer not to be named). By the end of the 1 hour class we rocked a little routine that would have made even the most talented stripper want to take notes. I have to give some serious credit to ladies who can pole dance, what a workout! The 10 of us were all comparing injuries and sore muscles after the class. Thank you so much for helping me cross my first item off of my list those who shall remain nameless.
The second thing that I can cross off is number 12, read the Shining. Quite frankly, I'm pissed off about this one. How many times have you said or heard, "The book is so much better than the movie", tons. With that statement in mind I decided to read with caution, my plan was to only read it during the day. Reading during the day + two five year olds at home = NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN! New plan, I'll read it while the girls are at ballet, that's 45 minutes every Saturday. That was going great until lovable me made friends with all the other dance moms. New plan, I'll read while I'm running on the treadmill at the gym, SUCCESS! After a little bit of a learning curve, almost falling off of the treadmill a couple of times and figuring out it's best to use a giant font I was on my way. It still ended up taking a ridiculously long time to finish but as of this morning I'm finished and disappointed. So disappointed in fact that I'm questioning the scariness of the movie because I could have definitely read the book during my usual reading time before bed. It really wasn't nearly as scary as my memory of the movie but as a precaution I stuck to my day time only plan. I really preferred the movie or at least my memory of the movie.
I'm almost finished writing my list, here's a little blurb on the new items:
21. Complete Zombies, Run! 5K
I'm sure a lot of people have heard of the running program couch to 5K (if not, it's a program designed to get anyone from a couch potato to be able to run a 5K), well Zombies, Run! 5K is just that but with a zombie theme. It's so entertaining! Basically the story is that you find yourself in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, get taken in by a camp and they are training you to be one of their runners. Your name is Runner 5 throughout the story. I've done a few different c25K programs but this one is my favouite for a few reasons. Yes, I'm a zombie nut but my love for this app is so much more than that. This app incorporates knee lifts and heel lifts, had I been using this app consistently before my 10K run last year with my cousin Kim, I wouldn't have pulled a muscle so bad in my foot that I needed to massage it for almost an hour after our run. Another thing that I love about this app is that it's a story that unfolds the more you run. There are some days that I can't wait to do my next run to hear what is going to happen next. I just finished week 3 day 3! Which leads me to number 22 on the list.
22. Complete Zombies, Run! missions
The Zombies, Run! 5K was actually the second app done by the creators, the first was Zombies, Run! The two are work with each other. In this app there is more story as it's not a training app and as the story unfolds you "pick up" different supplies and get chased by zombie hoards, you have to increase your speed by 20% to outrun them. The app uses the GPS on the phone to know your speed. It's a great design because it can be used walking/running or running/sprinting. I've recently found a great community of Zombies, Run! users who share photos off their runs and tips. I believe that I'm on mission 9 of season 1, it's been really cold outside lately and I'm a wuss.
23. Run a half marathon
The farthest distance that I've gone on a run is 10K, a half marathon is just over 21K. I honestly can't imagine running that far right now but there was a time that I couldn't imagine running 10K and I've done it a few times now. The feeling of accomplishment I have whenever I cross a finish line is truly an amazing experience. I well up with tears each time. I believe that between completing my Zombies, Run! 5K and all of the Zombies, Run! missions and some long distance training I'll get there one day.
24. Host summer Olympics with Gardar
A friend of mine, Gardar and I had a fantastic conversation about hosting a summer Olympics with our friends. I don't really want to get to into this one as I don't want to give away any ideas.
25. Perform a set at Coasters
My hubby and a few of his friends have agreed to help me out on this one. They all play instruments and we're going to get a set list together and rehearse and play at set at Coasters (or some other hole in the wall that will let us get on their stage). I'm am uber excited about this one! I've always wanted to be a rockstar!
26. Learn how to juggle
I really should change the title of this one to "Try and learn how to juggle" as I've tried very unsuccessfully before. Does anyone know how to juggle who'd be interested in trying to teach me?
27. Watch an American civil war reenactment
I honestly don't know what else to say about this one. The idea of a whole bunch of men dressed in civil war era military gear acting out a war is really fascinating to me.
28. Host a flash mob
Oh my goodness, this is a biggie for me, huge! It has to be perfect. I'm so excited and nervous about this one.
29. Take a photo of Maggie and a photo of Lily in my wedding dress
I think that this would be a beautiful keepsake and it's a list item that I'd like to get done this summer while they are still quite small. A friend of mine, Lise, is a brilliant photographer and fingers crossed that she'd like to help me out on this one.
30. Go to the ballet Swan Lake
I was a ballerina for 17 years of my life and I have missed it every day since I stopped. Maybe one day I'll get back into it, until then I'd love to see the ballet Swan Lake.
31. Sing Paradise by the Dashboard Light by Meat Loaf at karaoke with Sandy
Yeah, I don't know what to say about this one, haha. I've given myself this unwritten rule while making this list, that anything that I add to it has to stay on it no matter how silly or ridiculous it might be (see number 27).
32. Pick a part at Pick-a-Part
How neat would it be to dig through old vehicles and unscrew this part or that? Yeah I'm super stoked about this one. This one initially started when Geoff and I were having a problem with the back door of our van, well the van is no longer in need of that repair but I still really want to go to pick-a-part so if anyone needs a hand finding something, I'm your girl!
33. Chase a rainbow
I've been looking into this one a little bit lately as it seems to be the rainy season. I really want to try and find the end of a rainbow!
34. Find the surviving ancestors of the dogs who were rescued from the Titanic.
Ok full disclosure time, I may have had a couple of drinks when I decided that this would be a perfect thing to add to my 40 before 40 list but as you learned on number 31, if I write it on the list it stays on the list. I have no idea where to even start with this one as a quick internet search brings up such contrasting information.
35. Give Christmas baskets to families in need with Kim.
Shortly after Christmas I was chatting with my friend Kim about how our Christmas' went and we came to the conclusion that between our mutual friends we could sponsor a couple of families for Christmas. This is a very feel-good item on my list and so doable but something that will mean so much to a family in need.
Well that's where I'm at for now, I have 5 items left to add on my list and I'm thinking of altering number 11 as I've been informed that it could be very dangerous. So if you have any interest in joining me on any of my ventures please let me know! The more the merrier!
